Charles Crabtree, Principal Investigator

Charles Crabtree is an assistant professor in Dartmouth’s Department of Government, where he directs the Fundamental Needs Lab and co-directs the department’s Honors Program; he also co-founded and previously co-directed the Baltic LEAP foreign study program. His research examines discrimination—often among understudied identity groups and in underexplored contexts—with an emphasis on improving measurement and using field and survey experiments in the United States, Eastern Europe, and Japan. His work has appeared in the American Journal of Political Science, American Political Science Review, British Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, Nature Human Behaviour, Political Analysis, Public Administration Review, and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and has been featured by outlets such as NPR, CBS News, The Economist, The Atlantic, and The Asahi Shimbun.
Jayanth Uppalari, Research Affiliate

Jayanth Uppaluri is a MSc student in Political Science at the University of Leeds, attending as a Fulbright Scholar. Before this, he graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in Government (high honors) and Music and spent a year in Hanover post-grad working for Prof. Crabtree as a pre-doc and research assistant. His personal research focuses on public opinion of disability and disability policy in the U.S, as well as the effects of geography and regionalism on U.S politics. Outside of the classroom and university, he enjoys playing the bass guitar and drums, cooking, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.
Aditya Chirag Koradia

Aditya Chirag Koradia is a student at The Doon School in the 11th grade, pursuing the IBDP curriculum. He is an avid researcher in the fields of public policy and gender discrimination, with a passion project focused on empowering marginalized women in Awadh Nagar, located along the Indo-Pak border, where market access is limited and awareness of government schemes is low. He is a seasoned debater and MUN participant, having won multiple competitions and speaker awards. In his free time, he reads about current social affairs and occasionally participates in cubing competitions. A music enthusiast, he holds piano certifications from Trinity College London. He aspires to study government and economics at university.
Sergey Polstyanov, Junior Collaborator

Sergey Polstyanov is a precocious fourth-grade student who is curious and fair-minded. He assists the group with several “many labs” style projects. In his free time, he enjoys chess, music, swimming, language learning, traveling, and playing games with friends.

Evan McMahon

Evan McMahon, a senior at Dartmouth from Chicago, IL, is particularly motivated to coordinate health financing initiatives that strengthen health systems in the Americas. His experience working with Eritrean refugees in Israel and volunteering on ambulances in Jerusalem and the Occupied West Bank sparked his interest in migration and health, which he has expanded on through contributing to the work of public health organizations in the U.S. and abroad. At Dartmouth, Evan studies Economics and Global Health and works as a Global Health Initiative intern, encouraging Dartmouth students to engage with pressing issues of international health security. Evan began his involvement with FNL in Spring 2024 while living in Lima, Peru. During this time, Evan worked to create semi-structured interview guides that will be used in future FNL projects focused on surveying individuals experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. He is excited to continue his work with FNL by serving as the lab's Senior Research Assistant. Outside of research, Evan leads Dartmouth's Club Gymnastics team and is a part of the Dartmouth Dodecaphonics, Dartmouth's oldest gender-inclusive a cappella group.
Jenna Brown

Jenna Brown is a senior at Dartmouth, majoring in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics and minoring in Education. Outside of the classroom, She is on the Dartmouth Varsity Softball team, an SVPP First-Year Facilitator, a member of the JED-Dartmouth Partnership Undergraduate Committee and Working Group on Integration of Wellbeing and Belonging into the Student Experience, and serves as an executive board member for the Dartmouth Black Student Athlete Alliance.
Trenton Jiang

Trenton Jian is a senior at Dartmouth College, studying psychology and government with an emphasis on security issues. He speaks speak Spanish and Mandarin. Outside of academics, he is deeply passionate about sports of all shapes and sizes and spending time in nature.
